What are the most affordable blinds?
It’s a fact of life these days that many of us are on a tighter budget these days. If you are shopping for new window coverings, you may be wondering how to choose blinds that suit your needs but are also affordable. It’s important to remember that the cheapest blinds may not actually work out to be the most affordable in the long run: it’s important to balance the price of the window covering with its suitability for the window you need to dress. Hopefully this article will give you a few things to think about when you are choosing affordable blinds for your home or office.

Dollar for dollar, the cheapest blinds on the market tend to be ready-made roller blinds that you can trim to the size you need. However, these roller blinds tend to be made with cheap fabric over a cardboard core, which means they don’t stand up well to humidity or heavy use, so might not be suitable for a bathroom or a high-traffic room. If you have to replace your blinds frequently, then they are not going to be very affordable in the long run. What, then, are some options for affordable blinds that also will stand up to use?

We’ve already seen that the cheapest roller blinds may not actually work out to be cheap in the long run if they see a lot of wear and tear. However, sturdier roller blinds are still very affordable. You can get blinds with aluminum cores instead of cardboard, and higher quality roller mechanisms that can last years. You can also get still-inexpensive roller blinds made with water-resistant or blackout fabric if you need coverings for bathrooms or bedrooms. Venetian blinds tend to be a bit more expensive than roller blinds, but they block light well, and are generally made with aluminum; this makes them an excellent choice for bathrooms and kitchens.  Vertical blinds can be made inexpensively from fabric and plastic, and are often the best choice for very tall windows.

You may assume that pre-made blinds are the most affordable options, but it might be worth getting a quote for basic custom blinds to compare to the cost of a full set of ready-made coverings. If you don’t mind having the same basic blind in several rooms, you can save money on custom blinds by just having one style and colour of blind fitted to many different windows in your home. Reducing the variety of window coverings in your house, and settling on one basic style, is a clever strategy to save a bit of money on your decorating costs. You can always add unique drapes or curtains to give different rooms some flair!

If you don’t mind focusing on practicality over luxury, and spending time researching your options, you can still find quality window coverings to fit your budget. Affordable doesn’t have to mean poor quality, after all!
